Silk PLA printing & color guide
Silk PLA Printing Settings & Finish: OEM Color Approval
A shiny spool is only the beginning of a silk PLA review. WJ’s supplied sample video shows gold-yellow decorative models and a yellow filament spool, with highlights that move as the objects are tilted. This silk PLA finish guide connects those visible details with documented grade-specific settings and an OEM color approval workflow.
Quick answer for buyers
WJ shares gold-toned decorative print samples for silk-finish review and separately identifies its Sea Salt Blue and pink cases as silk PLA+. WJ’s PLA+ Silk TDS provides printing reference ranges and lists custom color development on request. Buyers seeking custom silk PLA filament should test the selected grade and approve a physical printed color sample before confirming the bulk-order specification.
What the gold-toned sample video shows
The 58-second WJ-supplied video opens with reflective gold-yellow decorative models beside a black filament spool. A winged figure has bright highlights along its curved surfaces; a rounded ornament shows a different balance of bright and shaded areas. Later views move close to the wound filament as the spool is tilted.
Use this footage to review appearance, rather than to recover a printer profile. It does not show the printing process or establish the exact grade, commercial color code, measured gloss or mechanical properties of these samples.
Silk PLA settings: start with the exact WJ grade
Silk PLA names do not define one universal formulation or printing profile. For the WJ PLA+ Silk grade, the published TDS V1.0 provides the following reference ranges. They are supplier guidance for that grade, not the settings verified for the gold-toned models in this video.
| Variable | TDS reference | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|
| Nozzle temperature | 210–230 °C | Test within this grade’s range on your printer. |
| Bed temperature | 45–60 °C | Confirm adhesion on the intended build surface. |
| Printing speed | 40–90 mm/s | Record outer-wall speed separately from the overall speed. |
| Part cooling | 50–70% | The TDS notes that lower cooling preserves shine; also check overhangs. |
| Nozzle size | At least 0.4 mm | Record the actual nozzle size and material. |
Build a repeatable finish trial
A useful approval print should include a curved outer wall, a small detail and an overhang. Keep the model, filament preparation, lighting and camera exposure consistent so a different reflection is not mistaken for a different color.
Begin with the exact grade’s TDS and a compatible printer profile. Compare trials by changing one variable at a time. A lower outer-wall speed or a different temperature may change the surface appearance; judge the result on your printer instead of assuming that slower or hotter always gives a better finish.
- Record nozzle and bed temperatures, nozzle size, outer-wall speed, layer height, flow and cooling.
- Check a temperature trial within the stated range before adjusting outer-wall speed.
- Evaluate cooling against both gloss and detail or overhang quality.
- Inspect seams, stringing and uneven extrusion before approving the sample.
- Save the approved slicer profile and a physical printed sample for repeat orders.
Compare gold, Sea Salt Blue and pink under the same lighting
The gold-toned models illustrate how highlights move across a finished shape. WJ’s separate Sea Salt Blue and pink silk PLA+ cases show filament appearance on a spool and during winding. These are different samples and viewing conditions; they do not prove a matched gloss level or identical print settings.
For color approval, review a filament sample and a printed coupon side by side. Use diffuse light to compare the base color, then directional light to inspect the silk reflection. Repeat the review from more than one angle. Screen images help choose a direction; the physical sample should be the agreed reference.
Plan custom silk PLA filament for your product range
For custom silk PLA filament, WJ’s PLA+ Silk TDS lists RAL or Pantone matching and custom color development on request. Send a physical reference where possible, along with the desired silk appearance and intended printed product. Color development, minimum batch quantity and delivery time require a project-specific quote.
Separate appearance approval from functional qualification. A display sample can support a color and finish discussion, but a fitted, loaded or heated part needs application-specific testing. The video does not substantiate strength or temperature performance.
Before bulk production, agree the grade, reference sample, printer profile used for evaluation, color acceptance method, filament diameter, spool format, quantity and private-label artwork. Ask WJ to retain the approved reference for the next order.
Procurement notes
| Print profile | Confirm the exact grade and save the evaluated printer and slicer settings. |
|---|---|
| Color reference | Provide a physical sample or agreed color code; approve both filament and printed appearance. |
| Acceptance | Agree lighting, sample geometry and acceptable variation before production. |
| OEM order | Confirm diameter, spool weight and dimensions, artwork, quantity, MOQ and delivery time. |
